Linux is on the rise in 2012
While Windows is frequently targeted by spyware, Linux is very secure and has managed to remain so. It is also faster than other operating systems which should prove to be very convenient for its users. It looks as though people are catching on to these advantages and that the coming year will be a successful one for Linux.

Linux Mint 11 has been released, it does not use Unity or GNOME 3
Linux Mint 11, codenamed “Katya” was released earlier this week. One of the main talking points of the release was not a new feature – rather the lack of it. Although Linux Mint is based on the recently released Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) operating system and is powered by Linux kernel 2.6.38, X.Org 7.6 and classic GNOME 2.32 desktop.

Lubuntu 10.10 will become official member of Ubuntu derivatives
Lubuntu received official recognition as a formal member of the Ubuntu family on 11 May 2011 after what seems like an eternity of waiting, commencing with Lubuntu 11.10, to be released 13 October 2011.

It’s finally here, Ubuntu 11.04 released
At April 28 2011, Ubuntu 11.4 has been released after the usual 6 months of development. The release of Ubuntu 11.04 has seen the arrival of a new look and feel for Ubuntu. A whizzy, new launcher and dash, and a clever workspace manager are some of the biggest changes. This is the first post will be talk with you about the newest version of Ubuntu 11.4 – Natty Narwhal. Ubuntu 11.04 isn’t the only thing new, Caninocal has been made a new design of Ubuntu Homepage too.

ShipIt has closed! Canonical only shipping CDs directly to LoCos
The ShipIt service was created back in 2005 to distribute free CDs with the Ubuntu OS, to millions of people around the world. With they informed you that the ShipIt Programme has been closed! Users will not be able to order free CDs of Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) or any future version. Now we wont be getting out favorite Ubuntu CD’s Shipped for free.
